Trainers

Trainers, Paul & Alice Howe, our lead trainers and owners of the Canine Obedience Center for the past 25 years, have moved their obedience, agility, and puppy classes to Leashes & Leads. They are trainers and handlers of multiple High in Trial Dogs in AKC and CKC venues, while they have multiple advance AKC obedience and agility titled dogs. In fact, Alice, with her golden retriever Bobbi, was the 1st Minnesota team to achieve both Agility and Obedience Championship titles! With the addition of the Howe’s to the Leashes & Leads team, you will receive the same superior training expertise as before but now at a new and fabulous location.

Leashes & Leads provides a state of the art training facility that will meet your needs and those of your beloved animal. We offer puppy, basic obedience, agility, conformation classes and private training sessions.

Puppy ONE Class   

                                         

Puppy classes focus on socialization skills, introduce pups and their handlers to obedience commands, and provide plenty of info on canine behavior. Next Session begins Feb. 28th 2012.

Puppy TWO Class

 

Puppy II classes focus on reinforcing Puppy I socialization skills, further introducing pups and their handlers to obedience commands, provides plenty of info on canine behavior, and is an introduction to puppy agility. The next session begins Feb.28th 2012.

Basic Dog Obedience Class - "Where obedient dogs are happy dogs"

Basic Obedience classes are designed to build a close relationship between you and your dog.  We address dog “issues”.  Prepare to have fun, work hard, and learn a lot about your dog, his behavior, and even yourself.  NEEDED: a willing handler, a dog, plenty of patience, a sense of humor, an open mind, and WE WILL PROVIDE THE REST. Next Session begins March 19th 2012

Competitive Dog Obedience Class

This class is designed for those wanting to compete in Obedience, or looking for a more advanced obedience.  Class will start at Novice level, but will be geared towards the level of the dogs attending. This will be a drop in class.

Registration:	Just show up. Must have basic obedience before entering this class.

Rally Class

Rally is a sport in which the dog and handler complete a course that has been designed by the rally judge. The judge tells the handler to begin, and the dog and handler proceed at their own pace through a course of designated stations (10 - 20, depending on the level). Each of these stations has a sign providing instructions regarding the next skill that is to be performed. Scoring is not as rigorous as traditional obedience.  See our News & Events page to see when our Rally Run-thru events are.

Conformation Class

Conformation will prepare you for the show ring.  Class is taught by instructors whose backgrounds are in agility & conformation and regular participation in seminars and competitions.

Beginners Conformation Class

This 6 week course is for those people who have never shown in the conformation ring.  Gaiting, stacking, and ring procedures will be covered.

Therapy Dog Class

This 6 week course is geared to get you and your dog started on becoming a therapy dog. The course will take you through many scenarios that resemble therapy visits and also help you understand and become a handler for the dog.

Day & Time:	Thursdays at 6:30pm-7:30pm

Requirements: Handler must be at least 16 years of age and the dog must be at least 10 months of age. You must have completed an obedience class with the dog or have been pre-screened through one of our therapy dog trainers.

Dog Agility Classes

TRICKS CLASS

 

Tricks class is a fun and interactive way to build a trusting relationship with your dog. Tricks are a game of patience, waiting for the dog to offer the behavior you're looking for and shaping that behavior. You will learn more about how your dog learns, how to use a clicker properly,what motivates your dog most and many many fun tricks. Trick training builds confidence, independent problem solving skills, body awareness and helps build a wonderful relationship with your companion.          Next Session begins Feb. 27th 2012

Train your own service dog support class LEVEL 1

Are you training your own service dog to help assist you with a medical condition? We now offer a new support class to help you work with your dog so that you both are educated and confident before you head out to the public. In this class you will learn your public rights and responsibilities, gain assistance with training goals and issues and also receive resources and advice.          Next Session begins January 12th 2012

Day & Time:	Thursday at 5:00pm in the puppy room
Cost:	$80.00 (5 sessions)
Requirements:	Handlers with a medical condition needing assistance from a service dog. Handlers must also obtain a medical release from a medical professsional. Dogs must be at least 6 months of age, have solid basic obedience skills and current vaccinations. ALL handlers and their dog(s) must be screened one week prior to the start date of the class.
